He Remember’s God’s Deliverance in the Past (vs. 1-10)
“LORD” = YHWH; the covenant Name for God.
vs. 1- The magnitude of God’s gracious intervention.
vs. 2- The Lord’s initiative: pulled him out of the sludge and set him where he could stand firm.
vs. 3- The Lord’s rescue lifted David’s spirit as well. He anticipates the many others who will put their trust in the Lord.
RESPONSE to GOD’s DELIVERANCE:
vs. 4-5- Affirmed his belief in God.
vs. 6-8- Dedicated himself to God’s will.
-“You have dug out my ears.”
-Wants a heart full of devotion with inner resolve to be obedient.
vs. 9-10- Proclaimed God’s Word. Uses the negative to underline the positive.
Prays for God’s Deliverance in the Present (vs. 11-17)
vs. 11- Remembering God’s deliverance in the past gives him confidence to pray for deliverance in the present.
>He turns his countenance to the Lord.
-The Lord’s unchanging character: His mercy never fails.
-The Lord’s enduring promise: His deliverance WILL come (vs. 16-17).
>Final Declaration of Faith: You are my Help & my Deliverer. Then He waits.
We have even more reason to trust in the Lord and have confidence. Jesus is the One who finally brought God’s deliverance to His people. (Hebrews 10:4-9)
1)Remember God’s deliverance in the past and thank Jesus.
2)On this basis, pray for God’s deliverance in the present.
3)We can join with David and sing of the Lord’s goodness, dedicating ourselves to do His will.
